Tragic. Murdered (by suffocating) his dying wife, the elderly husband has no help or support network. This is probably more documentary than fiction. Couldn’t watch to the end.

I cried though vast majority of the movie, but its an inspiring love story

It was difficult for me to view this remarkably poignant film. I recalled my father at 78 caring for my mother who was terminally ill with lung cancer. The character of Georges accurately depicts the life of a devoted caretaker. The actress portraying Anne allows the viewer to feel her frustration and pain. An excellent film.

It's been an hour since the movie ended and I'm still shaken. There's even a scene early in the movie when the male lead talks about having seen a movie, and the more he talked about it the more emotional he got. An apt description of "Amour". If you really want to put the part of the marriage vow that goes "to have and to hold in sickness and in health until death do you part", watch this movie. It's so refreshing to see such a human movie. No special effects extravaganzas, no loud music blaring, no crude humor, no "shaky-cam" cinematography, just a heartbreaking love story about two people approaching the unavoidable end of their love. This movie is as real as it gets. It's one of those great movies where you forget you're watching actors on a screen. The performances are amazing. It's not for everybody, but I hope it's for you.

A masterpiece and a movie very hard to watch in the same time.

I thought this movie was great! Worth the rental, although sad.

Amour was good. It started off slow. The performances were great. Emmanuelle Riva was incredible. Overall, the movie was ok. So, I need to give it 3 stars.

A beautifully made film of love, life and death. If you allow each scene as it comes, like each moment in life, arrive in Michael Haneke's assured, unflinching, compassionate authority- this film will linger long after it has been seen. It is a work of love, made with love and a triumph that it exists.

The filming was beautiful, great attention to detail, set design. Acting was outstanding. Fine pair of actors! However, I was not satisfied with the story. The love story, yes, but the premise of the wife giving up when she had potential to make the most of the time she had left in her life. She could have gotten medication for her depression, and therapies for her mental and physical skills. I have seen people fight with far less in their favor. And they have persevered and looked forward to each day with hope for something positive.

I can't imagine who would "like" this. There is no artistic tension in the movie; it's really predictable. I felt no highs or lows from the acting or the storyline, and if the effort was to portray a numb middle... well, I guess it did that, but only just. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if it was marketed as a documentary on old age. But "Love"? Really! Waste of time.
