The White Ribbon

The director seems to be in love with himself and this movie could have been much shorter. The opening credits say it all. 1 minute and 40 seconds of silence, with very tiny credits fading in and out slowly. A real punch in the face of the audience, as if to say, F you, I control the pace, you will sit and watch what i give you.

fascinating to read reviews of people who did not understand this movie. to say that this movie is boring is one thing (i guess you just don't like to use your brain when you watch movies ... but then don't rent a movie by Haneke), but to say that this movie has no meaning/sense it just ridiculous. it is mentioned right at the beginning that we are going to witness the life of people who would later end up being part of nazi germany. the movie was a window into a part of german society and culture that laid the foundation for what happened later. it is not an excuse but a try to understand. it might be hard for non-germans to understand ... it was definitely not an easy movie. but to say that it was a movie that had no meaning is just ridiculous.

To me it wasn't bad I actually liked it

This movie was extremely drawn out, mostly boring and I don't know why I kept on watching it! Since I actually finished it....I figured it was worth two stars! (Despite the urge to turn it off a few times) Don't understand all the hype? Maybe I am missing something!

It no good

Haunting and never a dull moment.

This movie was extremely boring. And in the end, it reached a climax of complete and utter boringness. If you were placed in a sensory deprivation chamber under heavy sedation, you would be more stimulated than you would watching this film. Watching footage of snails racing, played back in slow motion, would be many times more exciting than this film. It's black and white. It would have been better if it had been black or white. Seriously, despite heavy violence toward children, there is no plot payoff or message or any meaningful takeaway, other than how easy you can lose two hours of your life. It does bring perspective to the value of time that way. I'd pass on this one people.
