Description

Winner of five 1960 Academy Awards including Best Picture, The Apartment is legendary writer/director Billy Wilder at his scathing, satirical best, and one of "the finest comedies Hollywood has turned out" (Newsweek). C.C. "Bud" Baxter (Jack Lemmon) knows the way to success in business...it's through the door of his apartment! By providing a perfect hideaway for philandering bosses, he reaps a series of undeserved promotions. But when Bud lends the key to big boss J.D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray), he not only advances his career, but his own love life as well. For Sheldrake's mistress is the lovely Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), the elevator girl of Bud's dreams. Convinced that he is the only man for Fran, Bud must make the most important executive decision of his career: lose the girl...or his job.

I find it astonishing that it won the Academy Award for Best Picture. 1960 must have been a slow year in film. There's nothing truly special about this.

Wonderful movie with attention to the detail and sensitive approach. Makes you laugh and cry and reflect on what's important. It's a classic. Watched 60 years later still feels interesting and fresh! Must see!

I just watched it for the first time ... It was a great movie one that's well worth watching ... not to much of a chick flick but definitely one to watch with a date ... for sure

It is heavy on the drama and light on the comedy and romance, but in the end, everything comes together nicely. Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine act perfectly with each other, each playing the roles they are best at. They make you feel for their characters and hope for a happy ending.

Although the lovable Baxter is nothing like Don Draper there are many similarities between the settings and situations of The Apartment and Mad Men. Worth the money if you have even a passing interesting in classic cinema. I recommend Marty, if you find yourself falling in love with this absolutely perfect (romantic)comedy.

This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time! They don't have comedy like this anymore, but tha't the way it crumbles... cookie-wise! ;)

I'm not gonna lie, everytime I come to the iTunes store to look for movies, I always look to see if they have this movie up yet, and surprise, surprise, it finally IS! This movie has everything, the level of acting brought forth by Jack Lemmon, who is one of my favorite actors of all time, is astounding. The only other movie that I can think of that he acts this well is Some Like It Hot, or on a dramatic level, Days of Wine and Roses. SLIH is another Billy Wilder movie, and he cemented himself as one of the top directors of all time, at least top comedy directors of all time. Every place I have looked for this has it at $20 or so, and it is nice for iTunes to have something that beats everyone else's price! Don't hesitate, BUY this movie!
