Description

Music lovers will be astonished at the influence The Wrecking Crew wielded over rock and pop music in the 1960s and early 1970s. These unsung instrumentalists were the de-facto backing band on hit records by The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Elvis, The Monkees and many more. These dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “West Coast Sound” a dominant cultural force around the world.

Rest In Peace Leon. I'm sure Tom had his guitar ready for your arrival. Positive thoughts to the Russell family!

Was great to see the behind the curtain look into the music industry , the deleted scenes , over and hours worth should have been included into the movie, was as good if not better then the movie its self. All in all very glad i bought this.

Excellent documentary and well worth watching. Learned a lot and loved the music. What a bunch of talented folk who made history that most of us didn't know.

Perfect example of things not always being what they appear to be. It’s just a shame it took this long for these musicians to get their credit so long overdue. I guess it doesn’t really matter the order but to drill down even further on the ‘Wrecking Crew’ I HIGHLY recommend pairing this documentary with reading the book ‘The Wrecking Crew’ by Kent Hartman. Knowing the background of the the WC also comes in handy if you see the movie ‘Love & Mercy’ about Brian Wilson that is out (albeit in limited release). In addition, if you get the chance (even if there is a drive involved) GO see Leon Russell!!! Aside from him just being an amazing performer, knowing the ‘backstory’ of the WC and his involvement with them makes the experience even better.

As a kid who learned to play the drums to these great songs off of my folks record players my mind was blown that one group of incredible musicians was behind them all……great documentary about some of Rock N Roll’s founding secrets! Worth watching.

I rented this on iTunes the first day it became available and I'll buy a copy the first moment it's available for sale. These players were studio legends. Everyone from my generation has been moved by their musicianship & creativity, but before this documentary their stories were largely unknown. A well made documentary, lovingly done with a soundtrack worthy of the subject matter. Five stars from a music geek!

Excellent! Back when there were real musicians backing up the "stars".

Loving tribute by director Denny Tedesco to his late father Tommy and Tommy's musical peers of 60's rock and roll studio musicians. While it took almost 19 years to get the film completed and distributed it was well worth the wait. This is a QUALITY movie. The enormity of the task of telling the story of these, heretofore, unknown musicians is best illustrated by the necessary inclusion of over 100 famous song clips that the WC played on. The movie relies heavily on the presence of core group member, (Plas Johnson, Hal Blaine, Carol Kay, Glen Campbel, Leon Russell, etc.) as well as studio honchos such as Herb Alpert, Dick Clark, and Lou Adler and performers such as Cher and Brian Wilson to tell the complete story. So just as "Twenty Feet form Stardom" told the story of "unknown" backup singers, Tedesco does the same for this group of highly talented musicians. This is a quality movie and deserves all the accolades it is garnering form critics and mass audiences alike. It is a absolutely a must see movie for fans of Rock and Roll.
