Description

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in this documentary about the 100 days leading up to the 1975 Mr. Olympia contest. Five-time former champion Schwarzenegger is pitted against shy newcomer Lou Ferrigno (TV's "The Incredible Hulk") in a showdown that is as mental as it is physical. With psychological warfare, intense determination, trash-talking, and the easy charm that would later catapult Schwarzenegger to stardom, PUMPING IRON changed the world of bodybuilding forever and launched both men's careers.

Prime example of the term " keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer " this documentary shows that Bodybuilding is not just a sport, Arnold shows he knew what he wanted and was going to obtain that by any means necessary, under all the charisma and good looks was a VERY cold calculating machine that let no one and no thing stand in his way....period! Excellent documentary! Must watch even if you dont like the sport or Arnold!

This is so interesting to watch; to see Arnold at this transitional part of his career (bodybuilding to Hollywood). Anyone can see the man was a juggernaut but the documentary reveals what a mental whip he was/is. He was psychologically primed and groomed to be fierce and charismatic. Granted there is a price to pay for all of that and while it kept him winning he admits that it made him cold and distant. The dynamic between Lou and his father while supportive, also seemed awkward and smothering. The titans of bodybuilding encourage each other in workouts but clearly pick apart each other’s weaknesses… its an interesting play of ego and muscle.
