This is yet another movie where the producers think Peter can save it by his appearance alone. Slapstick is poor, suspense non-existent, jokes that land few...just a waste of a great talent. Anyone say this Sellars best work has seen any of his best work. Major so appointment from start to finish. Save your money and rent Dr. Strangelove. Only view to see how even great comedian/actors have bombs.
  • Far below Blake Edwards usual standard

Blake Edwards and Peter Sellers made several great comedies but this is not one of them. There is no plot. many of the gags are contrived and the whole movie seems somehow just a disjointed series of gags. None of the characters are developed to the point that they become interesting. The drunken waiter and Sellers have to carry nearly the entire burden of this movie. The sudden appearance of a baby elephant seems pointless as does the incredible flips over a railing into the pool that Mrs. Clutterbuck does twice. That said, Sellers genius still shines through because he needs very little to develop a hilarious situation.

Yes he was more then the Inspector. This movie a has tons of classic physical comedy in it. So many great scenes of this awkward Indian actor trying to fit in at a party he was mistakenly invited to. Gets a little out of hand near the end, but it doesn't ruin all the great stuff before it. Even the Love Boats Captain Stubbing "Gavin McCloud" (with hair) is in this fun and crazy film
