this movie is literally so amazing and the soundtrack is perfection, i do not understand the hate this movie gets and I’m sad it was overshadowed by the little mermaid back around the time it was released, we deserve the soundtrack on listening platforms to cope

My daughter had to watch this for a school music program simply because Barry Manilow did the soundtrack. If they wanted Barry Manilow, they probably could have picked some of his unique songs, such as his cover of Memory, but they thought this could work for Creative Drama, too. I asked to watch it with her and we rented it. It’s reminiscent of the Thief and the Cobbler, a film that has a Guinness World Record for Film with Longest Production Process. Thumbelina’s character is definitely somewhat sexist, but 1( my daughter is old enough to see past stereotypes, and 2( this was made in the nineties, before Hollywood got in on the push for feminism and started creating characters like Star Wars’ Rey and Moana’s Moana. Overall I think that Thumbelina is gentle and well meaning, and that if you’re into Don Bluth movies or have a toddler going through a princess phase, you should give it a go.
