The Day of the Jackal

Buyers beware, The print offered here has been enlarged with the sides trimmed to fit your TV screen! I hate that! The movie itself is pretty good, sorta of a europen version of Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much". The first half is bewildering and talky but the second half when the protaginist prepares for the assasination is pretty good. Strangely this plays in the correct aspect ratio on my IPad pro but neither of my Apple TVs nor my iMac. I suspect this "modified" version is coming from some server rather than my library. Apple used to offer a setting feature allowing you to choose if you wanted an ("as produced") version or a "butchered to fit this screen" version but I don't see those controls anymore.

This was my first viewing. The movie was pretty cool, especially for 1973, definitely ahead of its time in terms of the story and directing. It had my attention to the end.

Great movie. Maybe wouldn't hurt to include the name of the lead actor amongst the credits.

If you are into spy/political thrillers you will love this movie. It has perfectly timed action thrills and even seduction. This film takes you all over the place, if you can keep up and follow closely you will be in for a ride. must watch!

This is a gripping thriller, with excellent acting and a plot that keeps you glued to the screen until the final scene. I was pleasantly surprised!!

I cannot explain it but this has always been one of my favorite movies. As several reviewers have mentioned that even though you know the outcome it does not take away from the viewers interest. My only disappointment is in knowing that there are no other movies to duplicate the experience.
