Planet of the Apes

The movie quality is good. But the extras and commentary do not play on this release. Crashes every time. Very disappointing. I hope they fix it.

Mend-bending travel into the future of Earth. Love this film, and never get tired of seeing it. The newer versions of this series of films do not do this original justice. The story itself is epic.

If you have ever seen the remakes of this great original, they simply cannot compare especially the powerful message that the Original Planet of the apes conveyed. The ignorant ones who only like or care about the latest films and laugh at how dated the original films effects looked have no idea as to the message that was being told in this classic great piece. I remember when I was a kid and saw this for the first time, this was made before Star Wars, Alien, Predator etc. and was at the time the most popular Sci-fi film around till Star Wars made its debut. The ending to this film was infamous, and I remember just how gut wrenching and scared it made me feel. The music (or lack of) gave me also a feeling of foreboding. It seemed that there was a great sense of design with the filming and mixture of sound. The use of silence was a great element also, with no musical intro like in 2001 for example, and no music to the ending. Without the use of music at the end made for a much darker and powerful message IMO. Excellent film well worth buying and keeping in your library, and it makes for a great study in film design.

The beginning is a little slow for my tastes, as it's mostly spent just showing three guys walking around a desert, but once the apes show up, this movie earns its iconic reputation, with a great deal of suspense, interesting ideas, quotable lines, and a twist for the ages (even though I unfortunately already knew about it before watching it).

Best Planet of the Apes movie overall

They say that nothing tops the original. No truer words could be spoken in the case of 'Planet of the Apes.' A highly compelling sci-fi drama with imaginative characters, a strong storyline, and superb performances - particularly from Shakespearean Great, Maurice Evans, as the stubborn Dr. Zaius. Charlton Heston carries his part well, along with Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter. There's nothing not to like about this film. One of those rare instances where no matter what the technical aspects of the film are, it stands the test of time and continues to thrill and entertain audiences of all generations.

An iconic Sci-Fi film that stands the test of time even in the digital age when too many things are being generated and passed off as acceptable. The storytelling is second to none and leaves you speechless by the end…at least it did me the first time I saw it back when it first hit the theaters. A Classic.

Not a great film, but it earns its great moments. It's powerfully told, full of ideas, and shocking at best!
