Description

THE ILLUSIONIST is a story about two paths that cross. An outdated, aging magician, forced to wander from country to country, city to city and station to station in search of a stage to perform his act, meets a young girl at the start of her life's journey. Alice is a teenage girl with all her capacity for childish wonder still intact. She plays at being a woman without realizing the day to stop pretending is fast approaching. She doesn't know yet that she loves The Illusionist like she would a father; he already knows that he loves her as he would a daughter. Their destinies will collide, but nothing – not even magic or the power of illusion – can stop the voyage of discovery.

If you're looking for animated films with wit, artistry, emotion, an laid back tone, then this movie is for you. Like the Chomet's last film, Triplets of Belleville, it rather focuses on silence and pantomime, not just some mumbling and dialogue. But what I love this film is how Chomet and his crew put their effort on Animation like the fancy movement, clever shots, and more poetic atmosphere and music. Seriously guys, check this out

Spoiler Alert: This movie stunk. Brilliant and amazing animation coupled with a muddy and depressing story make for a frustrating 90 minutes. The “dialogue” is completely useless mumbling in multiple languages, and serves no point. The story began intriguing, but then relentlessly worked its way through tedium to its final, gasping collapse. The story was without hope or redemption. Our favorite character was the rabbit. It was the only life in the film. Do NOT waste your time or money.

This movie was amazing in the sense of the art and the storytelling, it evocade a large range of emotions from me. This was brought on by every character. I will admit though the ending broke my heart I applauded. There is not enough time for me to express how lovely this film is.

Top notch animation, touching, and subtly engaging. This movie isn't for everyone, so before you buy, know what you're getting yourself into. This is a rare film with heart. HOWEVER, the subtitles are hideous. One of the special things about the movie is that the characters come from different countries, and speak different languages. All of the non-english dialogue is replaced by [[SPEAKS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE]], which I feel is insulting to the film… There's a beauty in how much is accomplished in extremely little dialogue, but when someone says something, it makes the film just a little more charming if you can understand it. At the end of the day this doesn't hurt the experience. If you like a good, heartwarming story and do not necessarily need a lot of action in your films, then this is the perfect movie.

Just amazing I went to see it with my French class I loved it and being a fan of Jacques Tati's work this would be the best screen play he's written. The whole movie was a piece of art. There's little words I can say about it but j'adore ce film et je vais regarder dans l'avion en route à France. Il est magnifique

For almost 10 years I have been a Die-Hard PIXAR fan, but the Illusionist is that rare treat that ranks among their best work. The more I thought about this film in the day after viewing it for the first time, the more it became one of the best, most beautiful films I have ever seen, animated or otherwise. There are many films I enjoy that I wouldn't be able to defend as art, but not this film. Instead, I challenge, no, dare anyone to argue why it isn't art.
  • A father/daughter story

No matter how much you may insulate your daughter from the real world, you will eventually have to let her explore that world on her own. In the meantime, delight her as a good father can but when the time comes as she grows into adulthood, at least give her some good advice about what she is about to embark upon. The illusionist in this story gets a second chance that many fathers can only dream about.

I am so disappointed! I had so many expectations for this movie in which none of them were met. It had no point, no heart, and no dialog to tell what was going on, and what little mumbling it had was in french! The ending was awful. The whole thing was dull.
