Description

"Religulous" makes a pilgrimage across the globe with political humorist and author Bill Maher ("Real Time With Bill Maher," "Politically Incorrect") as he opens our mind to the ultimate taboo: questioning religion. Known for his astute analytical skills, irreverent wit and commitment to never pulling a punch, Maher brings his characteristic honesty and skepticism to an unusual religious journey.

Bill is a genius and this simply shows in the movie. Only the guy playing Jesus at some Florida theme park gave some sensible rejoinders. Unfortunately, with god, you can never get around the circular question: Who created the universe? Theist replies: god did. The scientific response is who created god, to which the theist replies: god has always been there. Then let’s save one step: forget your ‘god’, the universe has always been there depending on what flavor of the Big Bang or the Multiverse theory you accept. However, all the three Abrahamic religions are pure nonsense. The Ten Commandments are mostly nonsense too. Forget it. There is no heaven and no hell and death is the end point of a biological entity. No Jesus, Yahweh, Allah or Krishna in ‘afterlife’..... Grow up and enjoy this life on this minuscule blue dot in this universe.

Another one sided argument meant only to preach to the choir. Whether left or right leaning, films like this rarely “convince” anyone of anything. They are meant to shine a warm and comfortable firelight on the already convicted. We should all beware the embracing satisfaction that comes from consuming media designed only to remind us how smart and right we are.

As a devout atheist it was refreshing to see Bill Maher engage with all faiths some may sauciness one sided, but he really asked them to explain their position. Which always turned into "because I said so". I highly recommend watching this thought provoking film!

I laughed so hard at so many parts of this movie, my side hurts. Religion is very dumb.
  • Most of the one star reviews missed the point

It’s pretty hard to say that the people he was interviewing couldn’t share their points of view. People who are strongly religious (people he interviewed) can often be stubborn and try to share every point of view into one sentence, of course Maher is going to have to interrupt them. Although his choice of audience wasn’t necessarily fair he still interviewed directors of religious groups and leaders to their respected religion. He also aimed to interview average people because those are the people who are going to watch the documentary. He asked the right questions and just because you one star reviewers didn’t like the answers doesn’t mean the film was bad. He provided facts, don’t nit-pick.
  • Awesome!!!!

Very Clear to the Message, you have to be honest with yourself… you can’t just say “I believe because I have faith” that does not make it true… it was well put together, very good questions presented, not his fault that the defenders of religion don’t have good fulfilling answers… a recommended documentary!

Unprofessional and bot as scientific as you'd think.

Why does the video cut at some of the people's answers? Did they have something that goes against his gimmick?
