Description

Gary Busey gives an electrifying, Oscar® nominated performance (Best Actor-1978) as Buddy Holly, the musical genius from Lubbock, Texas, who changed the tune of rock n roll history. With a groundbreaking combination of country music and rhythm & blues, Buddy Holly and the Crickets (Don Stroud, Charles Martin Smith) catapulted to national stardom in just three short years with such hits as "That'll Be the Day," "It's So Easy," and "Peggy Sue." By the age of 22, Holly had it all: chart-topping singles, a beautiful wife, and international acclaim until tragedy ended a brilliant career but not his music. In an Academy Award® - winning score adaptation, Busey sings Holly's greatest hits in thisdynamic tribute to one of the most influential rock n rollers of all time and the legacy he left behind.

I debated in buying this movie and it was worth the cost. I always have loved this movie and hands down one of my favorite movies to watch .

I find it unbelievable that iTunes doesn't offer the original soundtrack. Gary Busey's "True Love Ways" surpasses the original.
  • Great Movie... Wish Itunes had the soundtrack

It's not just the Buddy Holly Story, it's not just the music ... it's the era .... one that will sadly never be duplicated ... climb into the time machine, watch, listen, breathe it in ...

This movie was pretty freakin' good. Only thing that pissed me off was, Gary Busey kept screwing up the lyrics.

I must have watched this movie twenty or more times as a kid. The scene at The Apollo was one of my all-time favorites. Gary Bussey gives the best performance of his life. This movie is timeless. Buy it.

The story has a few liberties in it because of some some rights issues during the time it was made (there are more band members historically) but the performances were just outstanding. Gary was a drummer/singer but learned guitar, Don Stroud and Charles Martin Smith learned to play their instruments and sing. All the music was recorded live during filming and most were done on the first take! There are some performances in the film where Gary really... really looks like the real Buddy just appeared in to him and it's to hard, vocally tell them apart when you play the movie soundtrack and Some Buddy tracks in shuffle mode in iTunes. If you get a chance to pick up the DVD, it's has a great commentary by Gary and the director Steve Rash... good amounts of trivia of the film and background on Buddy himself told from others.

People who don't like Buddy Holly may become a fan after watching this movie. Gary Busey pulls off a flawless preformance. He was really singing all of the songs too. You should check this out!!
