Description

This film takes a satirical look at the ambivalent relationship between Hollywood power brokers and African-American performers. The filmmaker also stars as Bobby Taylor, a struggling actor looking for his big break in the entertainment industry. While working a day job flipping burgers, Bobby heads out to insulting casting calls where white casting agents pass judgement on whether he seems "black enough." When Bobby actually does earn a big role, he is forced to choose between accepting work that opens doors, but ultimately demeans him and returning to obscurity with his principles intact.

This was one of my all time favorite movies and ahead of its time. Sad thing is not much has changed in Hollywood - in many respects Hollywood has gotten even worse when it comes to hiring Black actors and stereotypes.

Based off the movies lack of funds to create a top notch editing movie their is no shortage of brilliance in exposing a long terminal illness of power/class/racial stereotypes this movie uncovers. I was just a little kid when I watched it for the first time, and though I did not understand the simple underlying complexity of the humor, the moral of the story has thus stuck with me. Very funny movie, and if you ask me, (which I doubt you will) if this movie is a classic? I will answer as follows "You gotta eat to".

They don't make sarcastic 80s slapstick like this anymore. Watching this as an adult (parent) only made me appreciate the genius in the writing. This is a classic but make sure you appreciate the Waynes World, History of the World, Monty Python politically incorrect humor. Highly recommend.

This is a great film. The timing of the punch lines and the way the movie flows is smooth. You will want to watch it over and over to get all the jokes and I recommend this flick to anyone who likes a good laugh. This is one of the good ones and worth the purchase...
