This movie is direct, straight and to the point. The graphics are great and not over done. The sound score is also good. I highly recommend this movie. Another movie that is somewhat similar to this film is the Event Horizon.

I figured with a premise of restarting the sun with a bomb we were in The Core/Armageddon type. But, Danny Boyle with a great cast made a really good thriller. Went into it with low expectations, so I was really surprised by just how good this was.
  • Disjointed, heartless, ignores science

Sunshine is one of the worst sci-fi movies I've seen. First off, it's utterly unscientific. The premise, that the sun is "going out" in the near future and the earth is getting cold, is already absurd given climate science already - but I knew that going in, thinking it could make for an interesting twist or something as they explain it. But no, the movie never even hints at an explanation. Gravity, or the lack thereof, is also ignored. In a sci-fi space movie. Yep. Similarly, the characters are just cardboard cutouts, relying mainly on stereotype in place of actual character development. So when things go wrong, it's hard to care about any of them. This would be forgivable if we at least had some interesting on the speculative science end of things. But no, instead it bizarrely turns into a conventional horror movie. On top of all this, the ending is utterly predictable.

It started off fantastic with great promis and about 2/3 through the movie turned into some wierd horror film... Why!? The horror aspect did nothing to move the story or plot and only made the film a predictable mess. Also, as a scientist I have to point out that when the sun begins to die it gets larger and hotter, not colder... that part really bugged me as well. There are better sci-fi films, watch those instead.

This is one of those films that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. A brilliant story with an equally brilliant cast. One of the things I love about this film is that it shows the human condition in all it's aspects.

Whoever you are, wherever you are, you should rush to watch this as soon as humanly possible, if you haven't already. And if you already have, do it again.
