First off! People in the comments are saying it's not that realistic... for one it's a movie duhhh!! And 2 this movie was made in 2003 that was 14 years ago! There is not many knife movies. I think this one hit a home run. It's a soldier with post traumatic stress who happens to be a killing machine. it's slow at parts to not only show his store an skills but also has to give the teacher a back story since he's also the co-star. I love this movie! From the knife fights to the Tracking of foot prints.

An all around great action movie. Tommy Lee Jones is superb!!! :)

How bad can a movie with great actors be? Worse than you could imagine. Start with a completely unrealistic situation, add a really wooden script writer, hire a blind continuity person (watch the permutations of Jones' shirt: it keeps getting magically half-clean), and then make sure you add at least two moronically unlikely touches in each scene — like Jones and Del Toro stopping to do some flint-flaking and blacksmithing during the final chase, so they can brandish home-made knives at the end. Or 60+ year old Jones outrunning a train, when it's obvious he'd be hard put to catch a turtle. Oh, and be sure there's absolutely no suspense, and not one shot that makes the poor suffering viewer flinch, except in embarrassment. I stopped watching with 15 minutes left to run. Right now I'm watching an ice cube melt, and it's a lot more exciting.

This movie is not really realistic. A lot of scenes are a little cheesy. But its just a fun movie to watch for knifes and hand to hand combat lovers.

I feel that whoever wrote the blurb for this movie must not have seen it. I get a very different picture of the dynamic in which a soldier who has been trained to kill for his country eventually cant handle doing it anymore. Because of the sensitive nature of his missions, his unit (appears to be Delta Force) are tasked with recovering him and silencing him permanently. The first guys they send to do the job meet with a horrible end and he is finally tracked down by the man who trained him before escaping and ultimately facing off with his mentor... If you see this movie you should focus on the idea that he is being pursued by the government, and eventually, because of his unwillingness to face the people he worked for, the FBI.
