Monstrous fun!

I tried reading the book this movie is based on, but I couldn’t get into it. While the plot unfolds quite differently in the book, which is why I don’t blame some for complaining about the movie, it had nothing to do with why I couldn’t finish the book. It was just a little too technical for me. While the plot was enjoyable enough, I would have enjoyed it more had it not been for all of the big words. If it wasn’t every other sentence, it was in every other PARAGRAPH that I would find these big, HUGE words that were almost impossible pronounce and had me wondering: “What the heck does this word even MEAN??” I finally gave up when I was halfway to page 100. The movie, on the other hand, was AWESOME!!! Penelope Ann Miller is a beautiful, extremely talented actress who strutted her stuff as the brave, smart heroine of this explosive (no pun intended) shocker! Tom Sizemore was also terrific as the detective in charge of solving the grisly murders at the museum. As for the museum, what a terrific setting for this movie, providing a superbly spooky atmosphere. And that monster! Stan Winston really proved what a creature effects genius he was with the “Kothoga”, this film’s horrendous, dreadful villain! And it’s certainly got enough gore for fright fans! Heads will roll while you’re watching this movie (pun intended!) This living nightmare even builds to a nail-biting roller-coaster of a climax! Definitely a movie for horror fans to watch and enjoy, especially creature feature fans!👍🏻👍🏻

Unfaithful Adaptation

I don't usually expect an adaptation to exactly match the original book, but this is not only one of the most disappointing adaptations ever, it fails as a scary movie too. I honestly don't know how they could have screwed up such a wonderful concept and plot that the book basically hand-delivered to them, but somehow they managed it. The movie removes a key character from the book (pretty much the main character for the entire series of novels), and then struggles to work around that missing character by tweaking the heck out of the plot. In the end the plot doesn't make sense, the scary parts are not scary, and the movie just becomes a derivative and predictable B-grade horror/action movie without any true horror or action. You might enjoy this movie if you've never read the book, but if you have, stay away. And if you haven't, pick up the novel and discover for yourself how much is missing in this movie. The original book is honestly a hundred times more of a thrill than the movie is.

A fun monster movie. Penelope Ann Miller screaming is great. It’s not an academy award movie but I do not care.
Great Book, Terrible Movie

I’ve read Relic. I’ve read the sequel and other books that were spawned from Relic. Whoever was in charge of writing the script for this movie did an awful job. The actors did their best but no amount of talent could save this movie from a terrible script among other things. Save your time. But the book instead. You’ll be entertained by that at least

Check out the book series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Phenomenal!
It does what it needs to.

Be forewarned that it's very, very clumsy. The narrative jumps around. The acting is mediocre at best. And most of the dialogue is just expositional, really. But if you’re a fan of the sorely missed Stan Winston, it’s worth checking out. And if you’re looking for a cool beast in a cool playground, then you shouldn’t be disappointed. It’s not brilliant, but it does what it needs to. It kills time.

It's a great movie for a person that has not read the book. As a person who has read ALL the Pendergast novels I was disappointed in the fact the moved it from new york to Chicago and completely left Pendergast out. I did still enjoy the movie though, however you should definitely read the book and it's sequel they are much scarier , have you on the edge of you seat turning pages not wanting to put it down.

This is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. Do not watch this movie at night time.
