Description

Filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos directs this incredible tale of the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation. Also starring Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott and Jerrod Carmichael, “Poor Things” was written by Tony McNamara, based on the book by Alasdair Gray, and produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone.

So many layers to recognize from zooming out and in to poignantly resonant details. This movie reminds me of a famous quote: What the world needs is people who have come alive. Reminiscent of Belle de Jour and Le Petit Prince.

An extortionary adaptation created to visually compel and win over anyone who would like to see a story like no other. Emma Stone truly deserved the Oscar for her portrayal of Bella Baxter. A true masterpiece.
  • Sexual Exploration on a Souped Up Timeline

Interesting concept of a baby’s mind in a woman’s body. All the potential of learning and experiences come a lot faster when the sexuality of a fully developed woman is driven by the control of a child’s mind.
  • Masterpiece

Why I love this movie so much is impossible to describe. If you love the Grand Budapest Hotel, you will love this movie. If anything, my only criticism is that the first 15 minutes feel off, maybe because of the black and white. Don’t let it discourage you though, because you’ll be missing out on one of the best movies I think I’ve seen in my entire life.
