Memory: The Origins of Alien

With hardly any connection to the original filmmakers, this cheaply shot, ill-conceived cash-grab answers all the same old questions posed in much better ways on the special edition documentaries of the films themselves. Awful stock-footage, irrelevant interviews with people stating the blindingly obvious, avoid this one even if you are a fan of the franchise. Nothing new here.

This documentary was really good. makes me want to watch Alien again right now......and makes me want to watch this again right now as well..... many interesting insights into the inspirations behind the production of the film. And i want to know a lot more about Dan O'Bannon...

This was so interesting and much fun to watch!

Really nice doc on the origin of story. But as a previous review stated, there is an annoying echo in the clips from the film. I think this is a digital snafu as I saw this film at Fantastic Fest and it did not have the echoes. The remaining VO and interviews are fine but clips from the ALIEN film have an echo... weird. To the doc itself, while it does have a backstory to the creation of the ALIEN film, I found the exploration of why these stories work to be more compelling. The idea of what happens when we explore the unknown... what lies hidden in the darkness of space, or the darkness of our minds? And why do we feel compelled to go there? I’m not big into documentaries, but this was enjoyable!

This was a great Documentary

While I enjoyed this new look at where Alien came from, there was this thing they did every time they showed a clip from the movie where they took the audio and echoed it. Each line repeated over itself 2 or three times, making it hard to understand and rather annoying to watch. I don't know if this was an artistic choice, or a compromise made to be able to use the footage, but it does take away from my enjoyment.

Warning! Do not watch! It's a rewrite of the Alien Universe to Man-Hate it's origins! Better to watch the original Alien extras on iTunes which contains the documentary "The Beast Within: Making Alien" It's the same source material.

This is a great film, I forgot I was actually watching a documentary. The background and insight into the creation and beginnings of “Alien” was fascinating!

A fascinating, well-researched and really well-made film about one of the greatest films ever made. So engrossing and interesting to watch that you'll forget you're watching a documentary.

Alien is a wonderful movie. I truely do love watching it. There are issues with elevating feminism only by having Ripley adopt a masculine brutish attitude and the subtext of the betrayal of science. However, an Alien with acid for blood can be defeated with a handfull of chalk dust. Filling its systems with foam renders it inoperable and removes the acid threat. Strange for such a great movie to avoid addressing basic science. If Rippley had embraced reason and science instead of brutality and antique weapons, the Alien would have been dispatched and the message would have been more hopeful without necessarily deminishing the drama.
