The Laughter Life

When I heard the premise of "The Laughter Life", profiling a Mormon sketch comedy goup, I thought the producers would be trying to squeeze blood out of an anemic turnip. However, it turns out that there's a lot of fresh life and a great deal of wit pumping through the veins of that turnip. Juliet Wakerman-Werner and Jeff Werner approach the subject with film-making expertise, open-minded curiosity and a natural and admirable sense of respect. What emerges is a fascinating look at a sketch-comedy show in the making, with the added plot twist that the participants are all committed Mormons, determined to stay (just) within the bounds of LDS propriety. How they get there is much more than a Mormon story, it's a very human story. "The Laughter Life" is a great way to see the world through the eyes of others. I assume Mormons will see this film and love it, but a greatl value of "Laughter Life", including its terrific entertainment value, is to the rest of us. Thanks to "Daily Show" producer Juliet Werner and documentary film production veteran jeff Werner for this extremely enjoyable and eye-opening gift of understanding.

Mormons are often the butt of many jokes. It is fascinating to watch this Mormon sketch comedy troop creating the humor.

Great film, I was entertained and learned a lot!

I loved this documentary. A Mormnon sketch comedy group?! Who would have thunk? Really interesting film and they're very clever to boot. The best of both worlds. A definite recommend.

The Laughter Life is an engaging and dynamic documentary that does what all good docs should: it puts the story in the hands of its subject and guides us through their journey. It is a fascinating and touching analysis of comedy, faith, and personal identity.
