Before The Dark Knight, Imaginarium of Parnassus, and Brokeback Mountain, he made even terrible films engaging and very watchable. Brokeback Mountain was a nuanced, more subtle incredible performance. A sort of precursor to what he would show the world in 2008's The Dark Knight. It's a shame we didn't get to see that fully blossomed Ledger more, but am grateful for what little filmography he left behind.

This doc talks about a chess related movie that Heath Ledger wanted to direct where the protagnoist was dealing with pill addictions and it's mentioned that Heath was struggling with those same inner demons -- but, this documentary claims hat he was only taking sleeping pills, and that that, and a bout of penumonia, did him in. Whatever took Heath away from us... he left way too early. He was a genius, a free spirit and a genuinely good and real person. Whereever you are Heath, I hope you're at peace.
