An elegant movie from a more civilized age, so to speak.

By Hans Urs von Balthasar
From an era when special effects were achieved by facial expression, posture and inflection of the voice; a lost art called "acting." Ok, I'm too opinionated to write a fair review, but it seems to me this has more subtlety in it than any other version. Both the foolhardy courage of Victorian militarism and the timerity of later times are critiqued. Real courage is more rational than both, and motivated by love. Notice that the final feather is redeemed by standing up to dad.
