Bringing Out the Dead

had a hard time with this one. its pretty...messy, and kinda dumb. my least favorite scorcese movie.

A really good movie in its own right but as a city paramedic this movie is the only feature about medics that has ever gotten it right. Yes, some of the scenes are exaggerated but the personal insights to the job are not exaggerated at all. The grit, the dark humor, the exhaustion, the large doses grief mixed with small doses of hope and redemption are the trademarks of paramedicine. One of my favorite movies.

You rotten tomatoes just crack me up. Your opinions and your remarks are so funny. Who are you trying to impress? How many of you have a degree in film? Does anyone rem. Darell form "Kids in the Hall?" That's you guys.

totaly sucked! you have to be on drugs or alcohol to even understand. this movie is so wierd

This film really captures the FEEL of working EMS in Midtown NY in the early nineties. Even though it has a few fanciful moments, the feel is just right. Naturally, the book is great, too. And for those of you who missed this time and place, more of this film is true to life than you might think.

My husband and I went to see this in the theater and we were laughing so hard we almost had to leave! This movie represents everything we ever thought about or wished we could do. It's deep and dark and funny, just like almost every day out there on the streets.

This movie definitely takes a different approach than most Scorsese movies. It is dark and direct, and captures a very real essence of the city as well as emergency medical care under insomnia. Perhaps insomnia AND the desire to make a difference is the most notable element in the film. Nicholas Cage and Patricia Arquette play characters that are very easy to identify with. Even the director himself makes an appearance, as Cage's boss!

This really isn't that great of a movie. It was entertaining, at some points. I found it way too predictable though, A good movie if you want to sit on the couch alone while you're sick, but don't buy it.
